Jamie (VanDenBerg) Borick graduated from LWCS in 2008 and went to the University of Miami where she received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology.  While a student at Lake Worth Christian (Kindergarten through 12th) Jamie was very involved w/extra curriculars including: starring on the volleyball and basketball teams, serving on student council and helped launch/lead her church’s student ministry! At UM she was involved in research, campus ministry with Cru, and learned more about medical missions through time spent in Haiti.

She met her husband, Joseph, and they married in 2011. They attended medical school after graduation at the Medical School for International health and were the first couple to enter the school together.

They chose to attend MSIH, an American based medical school in Israel, with the goals of improving in their fund of knowledge of global health, improve in cultural competency, and meet like-minded colleagues who would encourage them to pursue international medicine.

She spent her first three years in Israel where she experienced life as a minority, saw the Israeli-Palestinian conflict first-hand, traveled to India to serve, and made lifelong friendships. Here the Lord showed her how big He is in superseding culture, language and history, and encouraged her of his hand in her journey through distance from family and difficult studies.

They had their first son, Luke, during their fourth year of medical school during interview rotations in the US. After interviews, they traveled to Ethiopia to put their learning and skills to work in three hospital settings there. She witnessed truly impressive and eager Ethiopian medical residents working tirelessly in resource poor settings and the difference they made there.

Jamie matched into a family medicine residency program in Wichita, Kansas, where they encourage broad spectrum medical education in the hospital and clinic setting with focus on rural and international training. They had their second son, Ezra, during her second year of residency. She was encouraged to pursue global health but also to remain faithful to her current callings. She learned of God’s grace and faithfulness in this season and of his preeminence over his ultimate plan of bringing glory to himself.

This year, the Boricks will remain in Kansas while Joseph finishes his med/peds residency and Jamie will join faculty for her program. She is thankful for the formative years she spent at LWCS where she developed a foundation of faith, was stimulated in her interests in science, and encouraged in her dreams of pursuing her career.
