6th & 7th Grade Summer Reading Assignment

6th & 7th Grade Summer Reading Assessment Instructions:

You will be reading two novels this summer and complete the assignments that follow. Please note that both of the assignments are due on August 15, 2019 (the first FULL day of school).

1. Read the book Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt.

a. As you read please write a two sentence (minimum) summary on each chapter. These sentences must be in your own words and describe/explain the most important thing that happened in the chapter.

b. You will take a short “quiz” over the book when you get back. You will be permitted to use your typed up summaries during the quiz.

***You MUST write in complete sentences. The use of fragments and run-ons will result in a lower grade. This assignment must be typed (Times New Roman, 12pt. font, black ink).

2. Please choose one of the following books that you have not read before:

· Savvy by Ingrid Law

· Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata

· The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis

· Fire from the Rock by Sharon Draper

· Cracker, the Best Dog in Vietnam by Cynthia Kadohata

· The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

**After reading the novel, please create a comic strip that outlines the main events in the story. This can be done on a blank sheet of white paper (you may not use lined paper). You must include an explanation of what is happening in each box (either underneath the box or through word bubbles above the characters’ heads). The comic can be drawn by hand or done on the computer, but it must be neat. The comic must also be colored/in color. You are required to have a minimum of 8 boxes and will be graded on accuracy, creativity, and neatness. Please no poster boards. A standard piece of copy paper is fine.
